MEET THE PM

Mr. Thomson is the Founder and Managing Partner of Massif Capital, LLC. Mr. Thomson has experience in private equity and credit/political risk insurance and has served as a strategic and economic adviser to NATO/ISAF in Afghanistan.

Before starting Massif Capital, Mr. Thomson worked in the New York office of Chaucer, a Lloyd’s of London insurance syndicate, serving as the co-portfolio manager for a $750 million portfolio of credit and political risk insurance policies. During this time, Mr. Thomson focused on underwriting the credit risk associated with project finance for businesses within the real asset ecosystem, writing bespoke political risk insurance policies for firms operating in emerging and frontier markets, and supporting physical commodity traders in cross-border trade execution.

Mr. Thomson also served as strategic and economic advisor to NATO ISAF in Kabul, Afghanistan. In that role, he advised senior leadership at the one- and two-star general staff level on various issues, including economic development, counter-corruption, and planning for the 2014 presidential election. He also served as the flag writer for General Rick Waddell, commander of a joint interagency counter-corruption task force.

Mr. Thomson is a Graduate of Trinity College and holds a Masters in Government from Harvard University. Mr. Thomson is a member of the Value Investors Club and has won or been a finalist in several investment contests, including Sohn and the VanBiema Associates Small Cap Challenge hosted by SumZero. He is consistently ranked as one of the top analysts on SumZero, a buyside community of 10,000+ members. 

MEET THE ADVISORY BOARD

Rick Waddell served as an active-duty Army Reservist for more than 20 years, retiring in 2022 as a Lieutenant General. He served most recently as the Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.  Rick spent seventeen years working in the private sector in Latin America where he led teams that found more than 6 billion barrels of oil equivalent and helmed construction of one of the worlds largest iron mines. He holds a BS from the United States Military Academy, was a Rhodes Scholar, and has a PhD from Columbia.

Margot Naudie is a seasoned 20+ year capital markets professional with global investment expertise. She held senior portfolio management roles at TD Asset Management, Marret Asset Management, and CPP Investment Board. Margot is a recognized expert in the global materials and energy sectors, having invested in over 1,000 global mining, oil and gas, renewable energy and infrastructure companies in over 50 countries. This includes site-level due diligence of more than 100 projects in 30 countries. Margot is a CFA charterholder.

John Mihaljevic leads MOI Global and serves as managing editor of The Manual of Ideas. He also managed a private partnership, Mihaljevic Partners LP, from 2005-2016. He is a trained capital allocator, having studied under Yale University Chief Investment Officer David Swensen and served as Research Assistant to Nobel Laureate James Tobin. John holds a BA in Economics, summa cum laude, from Yale and is a CFA charterholder.

Anderson Warlick has over 43 years of experience in textile manufacturing, building Parkdale, Inc. into the largest textile and consumer products company in the Western Hemisphere. He has overseen the design and construction of over 40 modern manufacturing facilities. Andy is considered one of the most innovative leaders in the textile industry especially regarding sustainability, spearheading development of patented processes that allow polyester and other synthetic materials to biodegrade like natural materials, resulting in less waste and pollution.
